PT Varuna Cahaya Santosa Secures Key Approval for Varuna Cable System: Pioneering Enhanced Connectivity Across Eastern Indonesia

Jakarta, Indonesia – 21 October 2024 – PT Varuna Cahaya Santosa (VCS), a joint venture formed through the partnership of PT CCSI Konektivitas Digital (CCSIKD, a subsidiary of PT Communication Cable Systems Indonesia Tbk. (CCSI)), PT Pracheta Nusa Telekom (Pracheta, a subsidiary of PT NAP Info Lintas Nusa (Matrix NAP Info)), and Mitsui & Co., Ltd(Mitsui), is pleased to announce that VCS has secured key approval for 13 segments of the Varuna Cable System (Varuna) for enhancing connectivity in Eastern Indonesia.

VCS has received Recommendation Letter – 1 for the following segments: Sumenep – Situbondo, Muncar – Candikusuma, Karangasem – Sengigi, Senggigi – Sumbawa Besar, Sumbawa Besar – Bima, Bima – Labuan Bajo, Labuan Bajo – Selayar, Selayar – Makassar, Polewali – Mamuju, Mamuju – Balikpapan, Balikpapan – Kelumpang Utara, Takisung – Bawean, and Bawean – Gresik.

This significant milestone marks a key step forward in the development of Varuna, a fiber optic backbone infrastructure development, which spans approximately 4,200 km of fiber optic cables. Varuna is a repeaterless cable system designed to transmit high-capacity bandwidth at an optimal rate of 12.6 Tbps per pair.

Varuna is specifically designed to meet the rapidly growing bandwidth demands from East Java to Eastern Indonesia. By deploying both submarine and terrestrial cables, Varuna aims to provide reliable fiber optic connectivity to major areas in these regions.

Mr. Peter Djatmiko, the President Director of VCS, stated, “Varuna will be instrumental in bridging the digital divide between the western and eastern parts of Indonesia, particularly between Java Island and other islands, supporting the development of the country’s digital economy. It is important to note that Varuna network is also strategically connecting the Java Island with new capital city (IKN), further supporting the government’s agenda to transform its new capital into smart city.”

As a backbone infrastructure, Varuna envisions widespread community utilization. To facilitate this, VCS are actively seeking partnerships with telecommunication service providers to extend network access from Varuna to end-users. By leveraging our robust backbone, VCS can empower these providers to deliver reliable and affordable internet services to underserved areas.

Varuna is a testament to the power of collaboration and shared vision. “As we move towards RFS in 2027, we are excited to witness the transformative impact this infrastructure will have— connecting communities, fostering businesses, and building a brighter future for all, particularly the nation’s digital growth”, said Mr. Peter Djatmiko.
